teapots #1 and #2

teapothead shakes – there’s much to improve on this first effort – so much is lost in translation

two strange siblings but here they are

teapot-1-and-2

teapot-1-and-2-front

poor little #2 (on the right) did not receive as much attention as #1 – it does show, especially in the handles (stay tuned for a reworking of at least the lid handle)

plus the position of the spout does impact on capacity (in both teapots) and the ease with which the last cup is poured – design of #3 must begin soon

  1. I really like that function is a consideration. So much of the beauty of a teapot is in the use. One thing I used to get nerdy about in my former life as a creator of (ceramic) teapots is the arc of the pour. I’d love to see a shot of the pour of these two. I can’t imagine what they’re like.

They do have such different characters, don’t they? So similar, and yet… like all siblings, I suppose. The curviness of #2 really has created a more sedate energy, just as you had planned. Now that you’ve had a bit of time to reflect, are you happy with the result? What would you keep/what would you change?

  2. thanks for the question: the spouts, the square to round shape of #1 and the handle design (although a little heavy and a bit too obvious at the base of teapot #2) are the best bits

the bottom curve of each teapot (where the side meets the base) is no good – although it could be squibbed as part of the ‘corpulent teapot’ … teapothead says ‘no’ – this was a difficult curve to hammer and the skill levels just weren’t up to it

they both pour well – the rectangle is especially pleasing – it also has a leaf basket (yet to be made for #2) which is necessary because of the slight lip between the body and the spout

ah there’s so much more – teapothead could wax lyrical for pages …

it would be very interesting to see some of your teapots – ceramic teapots were an important inspiration for this project

  3. In the bottom photo #1 looks shocked and #2 looks ecstatic. Their little teapot mouth are giving away their emotions!

  5. I’m with M on this one, they are like little wren brothers, one happy and one surprised. Or perhaps they are marsupials.
